AboutDBSTC

The Dianne B. Snyder Tennis Complex is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization, formed to support and grow tennis

enthusiasts within our community.

The Dianne B. Snyder Tennis Complex has been a wonderful endeavor to honor Dianne, a very missed mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. Mrs. Snyder grew up in Madison, CT, before moving to Clinton, CT and then Westport, MA in the 1990's. Dianne was a flight attendant working on American Airlines flight 11 on September 11, 2001. If you knew Dianne personally then you also knew tennis was one of her greatest passions. In both Connecticut and Westport, Dianne enthusiastically rounded up groups of women to enjoy playing tennis together regularly. Her passion has caught on for these women to continue to this day.

In the fall of 2003, family, friends and Westport community members joined forces to keep Dianne's memory alive for many years to come. The Friends of Dianne B. Snyder Tennis Complex was formed and efforts began to completely restore Westport's public tennis courts dedicating them in Dianne's honor. The vision was to create a beautiful tennis environment and provide a welcoming setting to all, both young and old. With the group's sights set on the fall of 2004 for beginning construction, fundraising efforts began to meet $100,000 for court reconstruction.

Contributions from John, Leland, and Blakeslee Snyder along with grants from the USTA and the United Way started the momentum. Support from so many ensured the success of some very enjoyable fundraising events, and with additional donations, enough funding was secured to begin construction of the tennis complex.

On November 6, 2004 the Dianne B. Snyder Tennis Complex was officially dedicated and opened.

The benefit that has come to the community of Westport, that Dianne grew to love so much, has been so exciting to watch and be a part of. There has been a growing interest in tennis in the community, measured by the amount of players seen fitting court time in. More than 100 kids have picked up rackets to learn the fundamentals of tennis through Kids Clinics and Middle School Intramural programs. Adults from Westport and many surrounding communities have enjoyed Tennis Tournaments, Adult Clinics and Tennis Leagues.
